 Foundation 153 is a dynamic, community-driven organization, powered by residents  and community members and inspired by the hopes and dreams of our children.  We are always looking for committed members to donate their time and expertise by being members of our Board of Directors.

Expectations of Foundation Board Members

The basic requirement for Foundation directors is a genuine interest in the plans and objectives of the Foundation and a willingness to use your time, influence, and specialized or professional knowledge to advance those plans and objectives.  Specifically, Foundation directors are expected to:

Attend and contribute meaningfully to all board and committee meetings.  Notify the President, Executive Director or appropriate committee chair if you must be absent.

Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings.

Serve on at least two board committees.

Make a personal financial contribution to the organization, primarily through the purchase of event tickets and the donation of auction items, if appropriate.

Be informed of the Foundation’s mission, services, policies and programs.

Act as ambassadors and carry the Foundation’s message to others.

Attend all Foundation special events.

Take an active role in fundraising including soliciting donations.

Thoughtfully consider grant proposals and final project reports each Spring, adhering to all grant cycle deadlines.

Assist the Board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviewing all financial reports.

Help identify and recruit new board members and other volunteers.

Respond in a timely manner to requests for action, help or advice from other board members.

Ask questions, take responsibility and follow through on assignments.

 

The Foundation is interested in board members who possess the following personal characteristics:

 

Honesty

Sensitivity to and tolerance of differing viewpoints

Willingness to develop certain skills when lacking them, such as donation solicitation or public speaking

A friendly, responsive, and patient approach to working with others

Community-building skills

A great sense of humor (because we have fun)


Board Committees

Program

Develops the systems and policies necessary to ensure a robust grant program that benefits students and teachers throughout school district.

Fundraising

Works to ensure the diversified donor base and sources of income that are necessary to carry out the Foundation’s grant program.

Board Development

Develops and implements strategies to recruit and retain a diverse, committed and talented board.

Communications

Supports the organization’s overall fundraising and recruiting efforts by making community stakeholders aware of the Foundation’s mission and projects.

Finance

This committee is responsible for all aspects of budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting.

Executive

Consisting of the President, Vice President and Treasurer, this committee provides overall leadership for the Board, ensuring that the strategic plan, goals and by laws are routinely revisited and adjusted as needed.
